State of the Cloud in Spain in 2023

Cloud computing

45% of Spanish companies opt for hybrid cloud.

  • Most of these entities operate in a multicloud scenario, where 3 out of 4 admit that their cloud-based infrastructures are an enabler to achieve the agility they need in their businesses.
  • 40% of companies are reorienting their cloud solution selection criteria in 2023 to prioritize business outcomes.

SEIDOR, a consultancy specializing in technology services and solutions, presents the report State of the Cloud in Spain 2023, developed by IDC, a leading global market intelligence firm. According to the research, 45% of Spanish companies have adopted a hybrid cloud strategy, with 90% of them operating in a multicloud scenario in a context where the cloud is playing an increasingly relevant role. These are some of the most significant data points extracted by the researcher from the publication, José Antonio Cano, Director of Analysis and Consulting at IDC.

One of the major paradigm shifts for companies in this era is that the cloud is no longer perceived as a mere destination for storing content but as an integral system that extends to exploration and the best way to leverage resources. In this context, hybrid cloud, which combines services from different environments, gains prominence, as it allows taking advantage of the various benefits of public cloud with a company's proprietary platforms or external data centers. Thus, the cloud environment provides enhanced adaptability to the specific demands of users, ensuring consistent service with cost control and robustness in security and management."

An opportunity to modernize infrastructure

Companies increasingly need to properly integrate new technologies into their operations to keep pace with the market. That's why investment in the cloud, ensuring greater agility, speed, and flexibility, is occupying a significant part of the strategy for many entities. According to the study, 75% of organizations in Spain indicate that their cloud-based infrastructures are a facilitator to achieve the agility they need in their businesses.

This situation justifies the opportunity for companies to modernize their cloud systems. According to IDC data, 82% of Spanish entities consider that agility has strategic importance for the success of their operations. This means that the vast majority of companies at the national level are aware that they cannot afford to lag behind because their infrastructures are not up to par. This will enhance their interest in taking on the challenge of integrating new technologies like the cloud, and consequently, they will seek the help of technology consultants, opening up new business opportunities.

Cloud approach focused on business results

Regardless of the fact that some companies face greater challenges in advancing digital transformation, it is currently at the forefront of countless European entities. According to IDC, 40% of organizations will refocus their criteria for selecting cloud solutions in 2023 to give more weight to business results than technical specifications. A strategy shift like this inevitably requires greater and closer collaboration between providers of these services and their clients. The increasingly relevant role of the former is to help the latter achieve their business goals through the management of technology adaptation processes, touching on both financial and IT aspects.

As evidence of the rise of public cloud in the current system, there are IDC's projections of robust growth. The entity estimates that this market could reach 6,878 million euros by 2026, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.7%. Public cloud is gaining ground in this way after consolidating itself as the trusted option for deploying applications and business services in a cost-effective, intuitive, and scalable manner.
